Maria has taught private instrumental lessons for a number of Prestiges schools in the area teaching Guitar and Bass Guitar and conducting guitar ensembles and rock groups;

Maria is also a singer song writer who performs around the Melbourne Music scene and Festival Circuit. She started Poco Music 19 Years ago which has since blossomed into a successful teaching school.

Matt Hoyne
Guitar Lessons
Currently in his 3rd year of study at the Victorian College of the Arts completing a Bachelor in contemporary music performance, Matt has been teaching with Poco music since the beginning of 2013. Matt teaches at both the Poco music house and Black Rock Primary school with students of all ages and abilities. Lessons are fun and rewarding for students concentrating on cultivating a love of music whilst they learn about the mechanics of playing the guitar through both songs that students wish to learn and music from graded method books. Matt is an up and coming musician in the Melbourne jazz community studying with some of the best musicians in Melbourne and Australia. In 2010 he received a full scholarship to attend the VCA secondary school as well as attaining a perfect score of 50 in VCE music for which he was presented the Premier’s Award for Music 2011. In 2013 he was awarded the Marion Thomas Melbourne Grant for young musicians who display an emerging presence in the Melbourne music scene.

Xavier Appiotti
is a composer/multi-instrumentalist based in Melbourne, Australia. He began playing his main instruments (Guitar) at age 14, Inspired by a friend who played the Peter Gun theme and thought it was one of the greatest thing he had ever heard. His new found passion for guitar grew into a love for all things music and within a few years, Xavier joined the Muso Network, a voluntary advisory and management group of young people whose primary role is to organise music-related events and services for young people on behalf of the City of Greater Dandenong. Later becoming the networks band rehearsal officer. During this time he formed his first band ‘Carnage’ with some school friends. They entered the Freeza Battle of the band and went on to win 2 heats, the award for best song writing and finally came third overall in the state of Victoria after playing Freezas Push Start summit along side The Living End, Killing Heidi, Eskimo Joe, Superjesus & Superheist. In 2005 Xavier enrolled into the Box Hill Institute Studying Jazz and contemporary Pop. During his studies there, He formed the Prog-Rock outfit ‘Cafe Médula’ along with fellow student Amy Campbell (ToeHider) and friend Perry Kakridas (Circles). The band went on to gain a loyal local following, playing at many well known Melbourne venues including: Hi Fi Bar. The Espy (Gerhwin Room & Front Bar), East Brunswick Club, Ruby’s lunge, Moorabbin Town Hall & The Everlyn. Cafe Médula’s song ‘Push and play’ was featured in the International Award Wining independent film ‘Kerberos’. After completing his Advanced Diploma, Xavier went on to compose scores for various short films, one of which was featured at the Astor theatre. He Performed and taught in several guitar instructional videos for channel 31 which were also released on DVD. Played lead guitar in Jim theatres rendition of Hair: The Musical and worked in popular local Funk/Jazz/Pop Cover band Monsoon, Playing at many events such as Comedy & Wine festivals. Xaviers current projects are: Writing and recording with his Prog-Orchestral rock band, Writing songs for commercial artist and businesses. Demonstrating and Teaching Guitar workshops for the City of Greater Dandenong counsel, focusing on effects pedals, Techniques and theory. Teaching Beginner – Advanced Guitar & Bass. Xaviers hobbies and interests compose of: Music psychology and harmony, Music Production & Graphic design.

Sarah has been teaching guitar lessons at Poco Music since 2013. She teaches at the Poco Music house & Black Rock, Southmoor & Cheltenham East Primary Schools. Sarah enjoys interacting with the students sharing her passion & love for music in a comfortable environment where students can learn at their own levels but striving to increase their knowledge, confidence & technical use of the guitar. Sarah is a full time musician/singer/songwriter who regularly performs around Melbourne at various venues & festivals. Her wealth of experience is shared amongst the students in a fun & relaxed atmosphere

 Alyce has been with Poco Music Tuition since January 2015. Alyce has been playing piano since she was 5 years old as well as Saxophone/Clarinet and Flute since she was 9. She is a member of several bands on the peninsula and enjoys playing at retirement villages and festivals. Alyce was Music Captain and received the Emily Furlong Music award in high school attending Bentleigh Secondary College. Alyce has played for musicals such as ‘Chicago,’ ‘Footloose,’ ‘Annie,’ ‘The Wiz,’ ‘The Wedding singer,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast and more playing her woodwind instruments and piano.

Matthew teaches music at Black Rock Primary School, Mordialloc Beach Primary school and at the Poco Music House. He began playing piano at an early age, and has performed in a variety of ensembles around Melbourne. Currently studying a Bachelor of Arts and Music (classical performance) at Monash University, Matt enjoys playing a variety of instruments across different genres; his passion and love of sharing music with those around him inspires and intrigues younger students. He aims to make his lessons entertaining and enjoyable, in order to encourage a desire to learn in his students.

Yanni is a graduate musician, composer and educator with over 5 years experience delivering tuition for Guitar, Ukulele, Bass and Music Theory. A multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer – Yanni has been performing and creating music for over 10 Years. A Bachelor of Music Graduate, Yanni primarily works as a freelance composer, educator and sound designer for film, media and multi-disciplinary arts projects/installations.



Jarrad Camilleri

Jarrad completed his degree of music performance at Box Hill Institute in 2013. Since then he has played in bands of various styles and configurations. He is currently working with a Latin Jazz singer, and performing as a session player when needed. Jarrad has been teaching with Poco Music since 2014, and has taught at Beaumaris Primary, Cheltenham East Primary and Black Rock Primary schools. Jarrad has a true love of teaching and is currently studying at Monash University, completing a Master of Teaching. Jarrad loves applying the pedagogical principals of good teaching to his guitar lessons, and creating a positive atmosphere for his students. Jarrad is very proud of his talented students and encourages them to make impromptu performances for their classmates.
